2 Peter 3:3-13
- The church that Peter was writing to was encountering “scoffers”. What was the nature of their scoffing and how is it similar or different to scoffing you might encounter today?
- How are you impacted by 2 Peter 3:7? What is your reaction? Are there ways your heart response might be out of line with God’s heart?
- Peter S compared "getting in the boat" with Noah to trusting in Jesus today. Is there anyone in your life still "outside the boat" that God is putting on your heart?
- Peter asks, "what kind of people ought you to be?" (v. 11) in light of coming judgment. Honestly, does the certainty of judgment change how you actually live day to day, or does it feel distant/abstract? There is a difference between living holy lives out of fear versus living holy lives out of love and gratitude. Which tends to be your default motivation, and why?
- Peter says we can "speed" Christ's return (v. 12). What does that look like practically for you or your church right now? Peter S mentioned the imbalance in "gospel wealth" and "gospel poverty" around the world. Does this challenge or convict you? What's one response you could take — praying, giving, or going?
- How does the hope of "a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells" (v. 13) impact you?
